HSBC Boat Trip for Disadvantaged Children

On Sunday, 11th September 2011, the Malta Red Cross supported a boat trip that was organised by HSBC for disadvantaged children.

In the morning, four Malta Red Cross first aiders got onboard the boat that was going to take the children to Comino and back. Since no Red Cross Ambulance was present at this activity, the first aiders made sure that on board they had all the necessary equipment should an emergency arise.

During the trip, the children were all excited and having fun. As soon as the boat moored at Blue Lagoon, the kids and their carers ate lunch and an hour later, they were allowed to get off the boat and go swimming. The Malta Red Cross first aiders stood on stand-by a few metres away from the bay making sure that there would be rapid response in case of an emergency.

Time ran out quickly and it was time to get back on the boat to head back to Sliema. Back at the Ferries, the Malta Red Cross first aiders felt overwhelmed when some of the children came to them to thank them, tell them good-bye and show them true appreciation.

The first aiders were relieved that all went well and that they were of help to all those aboard the boat. This post made the first aiders realise that indeed nothing compares with the satisfaction that a volunteer can experience.
