Isle of MTV 2009

For the third year in a row, we were asked by the Civil Protection Department to support its operations and provide First Aid coverage in the Isle of MTV. As the day approached, the Malta Red Cross – First Malta Branch, briefed its volunteers with the last minute updates and prepared its vehicles for the big event.

On Wednesday 8th July the Floriana granaries, were packed with thousands of people sizzling with vibe and waiting for international starts like The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Metro Station and Esmee Denters. The free live concert was the spectacular finale of the Malta Music Week, which has now become a yearly event. The show is expected to be broadcast across Europe in September and is also expected to be screened in Asia and South America.

As one would expect, during such large events, it is likely that the volume of casualties requiring First Aid increases. This year was no exception and the Malta Red Cross – First Malta Branch, covered one of the three medical posts in the area around the Granaries. In fact, during the whole event we were stationed with two fully equipped Ambulances, a Pick-up van, a Quad bike and Segways under the Independence Monument, just outside the mall. However, so much vehicles and equipment would serve for nothing, had it not been for the dedication of our volunteers, who turned up at the event with so much enthusiasm and commitment. The below letter is a Thank You letter of appreciation that we received from the organizers of the Isle of MTV, and is the result of the level of service that the Malta Red Cross – First Malta Branch can offer in such events.
